Doshisha High School

As reported in last month’s “Voice”, our member had a massive cut in teaching hours, from 18 to 12. Seeing that no reason was offered for the cut in hours and the impact that it would have had on our member’s livelihood, the union decided to act.

The high school first used the old “we don’t have to deal with you or meet you in collective bargaining” trick but soon found themselves in violation of the Trade Union Law for refusing to negotiate. Feeling that their strategy was not working, and not being able to provide any reasons for the cut, the high school restored the teaching hours to the same level as the year before, sixteen. Again, wouldn’t it have been easier just to deal with us on the telephone?
